     De nos jours, la mouche de l'olive demeure un problème sérieux pour les oléiculteurs qui maintiennent ces plantations d'oliviers, symboles de l'histoire et des paysages autour de la Mare nostrum. Leur charme faisait écrire à Van Gogh : "Ah si tu voyais les oliviers à cette époque-ci… le murmure d'un verger a quelque chose d'intime et d'immensément vieux. C'est trop beau pour que j'ose le peindre ou puisse le concevoir."

Today, the olive fly remains a serious problem for the olive growers who maintain these olive groves, symbols of the history and landscapes around the Mare Nostrum. Their charm prompted Van Gogh to write: "Ah, if you could see the olive trees at this time of year... the murmur of an orchard has something intimate and immensely ancient about it. It is too beautiful for me to dare paint or imagine."
